On Wednesday: A screening of Fences

Reel Life-A Summer Film Series continues with Pennsylvania’s playwright August Wilson’s 1987 Pulitzer Prize-winning play on Wednesday, July 31 at 7:00pm in the Winsor Room.

Set in the 1950’s in Pittsburgh, it is the sixth in August Wilson’s ten-part “Pittsburgh Cycle”. The play follows Troy Maxson, a 53-year-old man who struggles to provide for his wife and son in a time when the Civil Rights Movement has still not come to fruition. Troy used to be an amazing baseball player, but was not able to make it to the Major Leagues due to the color of his skin.

The 2016 film stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Like all of Wilson’s plays, Fences explores the evolving African American experience and examines race relations and many more themes. Running time: 139 min.

I hope to see you there…Pam
