Food in Jars, Chickens in the Road, and more…

As this latest storm approaches, I hope you are preparing to be cooped up for the next day or two. We have plenty of books and movies here for you. Our doors are open until 9pm.

Last night, author and cook Marisa McClellan was in the Winsor Room whipping up a small batch of vanilla bean-pear jam. Yep, just like that.

I am not a book reviewer, but I thought I would mention the book I read last week, Chickens in the Road. I liked it so much, I found myself at the author’s blog, looking at videos of Beulah Petunia, the cow that made her life complete. I just had to meet the cow with 2 names. And her baby, Glory Bee.

Chickens in the Road is the name of Suzanne McMinn’s inspiring and funny (read:nutty) memoir that shares the story of her search to lead a life of ordinary splendor, as she calls it, on a farm in West Virginia.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you have lots of food in jars, and maybe a few chickens in the road. If not, then maybe a cat on your lap or a dog in your bed. Best of all, love in your heart.
