Tuesday with Tad!

Radnor Memorial Library and Radnor Historical Society are thrilled to present an evening with Tad Friend, the author of Cheerful Money: Me, My Family, And The Last Days Of WASP Splendor. Friend grew up in Buffalo, NY and Swarthmore (his father was the president of Swarthmore College and lives in Radnor) and attended Shipley, then he went to Harvard. Now Brooklyn-based, the writer has written for Esquire, Vogue, New York, Spy, and is now a staff writer at the New Yorker. Friend is married to the journalist and cookbook author Amanda Hesser and they have twins.

Ryan Richards, from Main Line Media News, visited the Library the other day to pick up a copy of Cheerful Money. This tells me that he is probably getting ready to interview Tad on the phone and then get the story in this week’s Suburban. I know that all the readers who  hang out at the Library also read the Suburban and will no doubt catch Ryan’s article and make it a plan to be here for the book talk. We will have books to sell… it just came out in paperback.  Cheerful Money (I love saying that) was chosen as one of the best books of 2009 by The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and Chicago Tribune.

It ‘ll be a very stimulating event…old pals will probably come out of the woodwork for Tad and we’ll have him wondering why he ever left the Main Line. He just may miss his train back to New York…

This evening is guaranteed to pack the room so get here early. I hope Tad’s dad is coming!
