Appalachian Mountain Club’s Guide to the Best Day Hikes Near Philadelphia

brand new book!

On Tuesday, June 8, 7:30pm in the Winsor Room author Susan Charkes will present a selection of places to go in the Philadelphia area in all seasons, for all hikers. Charkes is a hike leader for the Delaware Chapter of the AMC–one of the region’s largest outdoor recreation organizations. Copies of Charkes’ new book will be available for purchase at the book talk.

Susan Charkes was brought up in neighboring Lower Merion Township and remembers tramping through the woods, messing about in the streams and “camping” in the underbrush. These adventures nurtured her love for nature–especially those parts of nature that you could put in your pocket, like rocks and baby toads.

I looked at Susan’s blog and read that she practiced law after graduating from Columbia Law School. The author also has an MLS (Librarian!) from Rutgers. (Geez, she probably went to medical school when we weren’t looking…)

The author is now the Executive Director of the Patuxent Tidewater Land Trust and also works as a freelance writer.

Please join us for an informative and fun program next Tuesday night!
